WE’VE GOT A TICKET TO RIDE
Maureen and I recently got our ride free passes.
The state of Illinois has passed a law allowing citizens over 65 years old to ride public transportation free.
We can now get on the Pace bus that stops almost in our front yard, ride to the Metra train station, take the train to Chicago, then take a bus or the elevated train anywhere in the Chicago area and back again absolutely free.
No expensive gas to burn, no toll booth queues, no parking fees to pay, and best of all no traffic snarls to worry about. We can sit back and just enjoy the ride.
The transit authority even has a trip planner to take the guesswork out of which bus or train to take. It’s a small compensation for being old.

Congrats, Paul. Hope you and Maureen enjoy using your passes. Madge I have similar passes which cover all local transport, but unfortunately all our journeys , particularly to family, can only be made conveniently by car unless we want to take all day and not need to transport the usual trunkful of stuff.
Incidentally, I have an E-mail correspondent called Maureen, and my spellchecker insisted on changing her name to Maurice, so now she’s Maurice to me. Her spellchecker changed my John Ramsden to Juan Ramose, so I am Juan to her. Ain’t life grand !
Very cool! Unfortunately, nothing exsists like that here. Even if you are “old”. We have just about zero mass transit.
Wished we had pubic transportation in our community, would help so much with a gallon of gas now at 4.25
Illinois state has a social spirit and shows solidatity woth the olders who made its prosperity .
I would be curious to know who is the governor : democrat or conservative ?
In friendship, Paul
Michel
Oh thats awesome.
There are student passes here in Houston but Ive never inquired about it. If I lived closer to downtown I would (only 20 mins from dt). PLus, Houston is car nation. The Only ppl who ride the bus are ppl w/o cars. Only ppl who ride the rail are ppl who work in the medical center and they park their cars at the park n ride. SO basically, everyone in Houston drives. Haha. I want to move to a city like CHicago, NY, or SF where they have subways, trains, BART, etc though.
Btw, I heard Houston is the fattest city

Michel, Rod Blagojevich (pronounced bla-goy-a-vitch)is the Governor of Illinois. The legislature and the governor are democrats, but in Illinois, the republicans are mostly liberals and not very conservative. Guy
