THE LEG MYSTERY
Yesterday there was a leg of a small animal in the driveway. It was a leg, complete with bones, meat and fur. From the size and color of the fur, I assume it was from a rabbit.
As I was examining the area, Libby assumed it would make a nice snack and ran off with it. She wasn’t going to give it up, so I had to chase her down and take it away.
There was no blood on the ground, so the act of separation from the body must have happened somewhere else. There are coyotes and foxes in the area, but this had to have happened during the day because they almost always never hunt in the daylight and usually take the food back to their lair. I assume a hawk or some other bird of prey dropped it from a tree or the roof of the house.
And that was the highlight of our day.

Interesting. I found bits of bird (sparrow by the looks of it) a week ago. Large chunks of feathers, on the patio. Later that week, after it snowed, I went out in the morning after work and found all manner of foot prints in the snow on the patio. Birds, a rabbit, something very wee like a mouse and cat. The wee mouse & cat tracks intercepted one another and the wee mousey like tracks stopped. My mom feeds the birds and I think the cats have figured out it’s like a buffet on the patio, lol.
Interesting. I came out of the house a few weeks ago and found a lifeless cat on the front porch. It did not appear to be broken, but with some blood on the concrete, I knew it had been attacked. A coyote would have eaten it. A dog would have taken it to eat or play with. The mystery still haunts me. I think it was the neighbors animal.
well, now, unless Libbey is your kid, I say you shoulda let Libbey have it. Not like you were gonna eat it.
