OUR JAKE

Our grandson Jake is a senior in high school.  He has always been active in sports, but in the last couple of years he has devoted his efforts to golf.  Jake has worked hard to be the best he can be, but his determination to be better hasn't changed his kind spirit.

Now, as grandparents, it is our duty to take pride in all our grandchildren's accomplishments and take every opportunity to boast about their special character and abilities.  Jake is no exception.  He qualified at the regional tournament, but had a bad round in the sectionals and missed going to the state finals.

But, his year wasn't over yet.  Last week the twelve coaches in his conference voted him the sportsmanship award at the annual golf banquet.  This week the local newspaper selected him along with five others to the all-area boy's golf first team.

Did I mention that we're proud of Jake?   It must be in the DNA.

That is great news, I bet your grandson is so thrilled. It's so nice to read good things about our young people, plus your grandson isn't roaming the streets looking for trouble. He's got his hands full with the game of golf :) I know cause I just took up the sport a few years ago and it's a real challenge, at least for me. ha.ha  But it's a fun sport and gets a person out doors. Great excercise, if you walk the course that is....smile

Heck I just read in the paper about how 70% of our young population isn't fit for the service. They are being turned away, either for their weight being to high or lack of schooling or a bad police record. So be mighty proud of this young man, he's a credit to you and his parents.

Congrats to Jake!  That's pretty awesome.  My nephew, he is much the same as far as being a kind spirit.  He plays football, he's a bench warmer... but he's up and giving kudos to his teammates.  It's nice to see the good kids out there... I spend 40 hrs a week dealing with the not so good ones...

ryc about my God son... I don't think the military would take him and he doesn't want to go there, anyway.  I've suggested that many, many times.  He doesn't have a diploma because he dropped out, he's been in jail... 5 or 6 times now for drugs/alcohol.  My suggestion to him this morning was Job Corps.  Government program for poor kids, if you're not familiar.  He could get a diploma there, get job training, earn some money and get out of the mess he's in.  I'm just not all that certain that he really wants to change.  That is the frustrating part...
