  • THE GUARDIANS

Three Great Pyrenees dogs are taking on a bear that threatens their flock.  I found this picture on-line, but I couldn’t read the story because it was written in Swedish or Norwegian.

Pyrs and other similar guardian dogs don’t have to be trained as such.  From what I understand about these livestock guardian dogs is that what they do is instinctive.  They are raised with the sheep or goats when they are pups and literally become part of the flock.

When predators like bears or wolves threaten the animals that they are protecting, they place themselves between their flock and and the threat.  They will kill when necessary, but are usually satisfied just to chase the predators away.

In the Pyrenees Mountains they are called “le patou” or “the shepherd”.

  • RIDDLE OF THE DAY

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a big one.
Michael J. Fox has a small one.
    Madonna doesn’t have one.
The Pope has one but doesn’t use it.
Clinton uses his all the time.
    Bush is one.
Mickey Mouse has an unusual one.
Liberace never used his on women.
Jerry Seinfeld is very, very proud of his.
Cher claims that she took on 3.
We never saw Lucy use Desi’s.
    What is it?

  • ANOTHER PYR SIGHTING

I’m always excited to find a picture of a Great Pyrenees.  This was a supplement in our local newspaper this weekend.

  • For quite some time, I’ve been having problems with my right leg. Every once in awhile my upper leg experienced numbness.  There are other symptoms, but I thought it was due to a sciatic nerve problem.

Last week I had an ultrasound on my leg and they found a blood clot halfway up the thigh.

    WARFARIN (COUMADIN)

I had never heard of vitamin “K” before, but it contains a clotting element and it has to be reduced from my diet.  Vitamin “K” is found primarily in leafy vegetables like spinach and broccoli, but is also found in other foods in smaller quantities.

Now I’m giving myself Lovenox injections in my stomach twice a day and taking Coumadin to dissolve the clot.
